Ipswich council receives poison test result for animal tongues found in Pebbles Park dog area in Ripley at Ecco Ripley estate

A member of the public made a shocking discovery at an Ipswich off-leash park recently, prompting concerns someone was out to poison beloved pets.

Three animal tongues were found in the off-leash dog park in Pebbles Park in the Ecco Ripley estate in July.

Ipswich City Council has received the final test results conducted on the animal tongues found nailed to pieces of wood in a local dog park, amid fears they may have contained poison.

A woman made the shocking discovery in the off-leash dog area in Pebbles Park in Ripley last month.

Council officers removed the three animal tongues found nailed to three separate pink timber boards on the afternoon of July 2.

The tongues were sent for testing in July.

The tongues were sent to Queensland health for testing.

A council spokesman said test results showed there was no sign of poison in the tongues, which came from sheep.

“West Moreton Public Health is in receipt of the final certificate of analysis from the laboratory, which confirms there is no strychnine or 1080 (fluoroacetate) present in the samples, and the meat DNA species is ovine (Ovis Aries - sheep),” he said.

“As there are no regulated poisons present in the samples, Queensland Health will close the matter as there are no further investigations required under Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 1996.”

The spokesman said the council is continuing to monitor dog parks in the area after the incident a month ago.

He urged people not to touch or try and remove any similar items if they are found in local parks and to immediately contact council.

The park is managed by the council but is located in the Ecco Ripley housing estate.

About 700 houses have been built in the 194-hectare Ecco Ripley estate to date.
