A WOMAN has made a gruesome discovery in an Ipswich dog park, stumbling across animal tongues nailed to pieces of timber.

They were found scattered around the off-leash dog area at Pebbles Park in Ripley on Friday.

The park falls within the master planned Ecco Ripley housing estate but is managed by Ipswich City Council.

They are believed to be cow tongues but it is not known whether they contained any kind of poison, with testing to be done next week.

Council officers attended the park on Friday afternoon.

A council spokesman said three animal tongues nailed to pink timber boards were found and removed.

Council workers then inspected other parks in the area but did not make any similar discoveries.

“Three tongues and three pieces of timber were recovered at the park,” the spokesman said.

“Council is liaising with Queensland Health and will request tests be done on the tongues when Queensland Health testing facilities reopen on Monday.

“Council will continue to monitor this park and others in Ripley in coming days.”

Police said they are not aware of the issue.

The public is advised not to touch or try and remove any such items if they are found in other local parks.

They are urged to contact council on 3810 6666 if any similar discoveries are made.

Ecco Ripley residents have taken to social media to voice their disgust at the incident on the estate’s private Facebook group.

“The tongues were nailed to bits of wood and placed around the dog park,” Jessica Woodyard said.

“There were lots of nails used in each one as well so I don't think it was nice.”

About 700 houses have been built in the 194-hectare Ecco Ripley estate to date.

Pebbles Park was the first dog park in the rapidly growing suburb and the $800,00 facility is kitted out with picnic shelters, playground equipment, water fountains and basketball and handball courts.
