Ipswich City Council awaiting test result from Ripley dog park animal tongues

Testing is being conducted to determine whether animal tongues found at an Ipswich dog park were intended to cause harm.

Three animal tongues were found nailed to pieces of timber in the Pebbles Park off-leash dog area in Ripley on July 2. Ipswich City Council is awaiting test results to confirm the species.

IPSWICH City Council is awaiting test results from Queensland Health to confirm the species of animal tongues which were found nailed to pieces of timber in a local dog park earlier this month.

It is not yet known whether they contained poison commonly used to kill wild dogs.

A woman made the shocking discovery of three animal tongues nailed to pink timber boards within the off-leash dog area at Pebbles Park in Ripley on July 2.

The park within the Ecco Ripley estate is managed by the council.

They are believed to be cow tongues.

Council officers removed the tongues from the facility and inspected other parks in the area but made no similar discoveries.

“Queensland Health has advised it is running diagnostics and should have results (early this week),” a council spokesman said.

“Additional tests are being undertaken by Queensland Health to confirm the species of the animal tongues.

“This is to assist a possible follow-up investigation by Queensland Police.”

Results are expected to come back this week.

“The animal tongues then need testing by Department of Agriculture and Fisheries laboratory staff to assess for the presence of a poison that is widely used to control wild dogs,” the spokesman said.

“DAF was not able to provide a timeline on this process.”

Residents are being urged not to touch or try and remove any similar items if found in local parks.

To report anything, contact the council’s customer service team on 3810 6666.
