A Goodna mum who stole a bizarre combination of goods from a Coles supermarket, because she just wanted to ‘try’ it was fined in Ipswich Magistrates Court this week.

Courtneay-Rose Filoreen Heavenl Te Hira pleaded guilty to a single charge of stealing, but confessed to the magistrate that she “didn’t know” why she did it.

On January 18 at Coles Redbank Ms Te Hira entered the store to do some regular grocery shopping, but decided to ‘try’ stealing a smoothie tumbler and two water bottles, as a friend allegedly stole from that store often and she wanted to give it a go.

A loss-prevention officer witnessed Ms Te Hira the store without paying for $77.92 worth of goods, including the three bottles, 2 small packets of turkey and a kiwifruit.

Police arrested Ms Te Hira, and she admitted to taking the goods and said she “wished she hadn’t taken them”.

The court heard that Ms Te Hira only intended to steal the bottles, which she had smuggled into an Aldi bag in her trolley, and that the theft of the other goods had been a mistake.

“So with the meat and the kiwi fruit, I didn’t intentionally take those, I didn’t know that they were there, they had been on the bottom of the trolley, so that would have just gone through with my regular shop,” she said.

“There was no need for me to do it, I ended up going and paying for the goods anyway.”

Ms Te Hira was fined $200 and no convictions were recorded.
