A prestigious Ipswich school has announced it will be returning to its roots and expanding its offerings to include Year 5 and 6 students to its existing Year 7 to 12 campus.
St Edmund’s College, Ipswich has provided education for boys in high school from Year 7 to 12 since 1988, but at its opening in 1892 until 1988, had also educated primary school boys.
Citing the expected rapid growth expected for the region, the school said they would be offering a total of 112 places across the two year levels in 2025 in an effort to address increasing demand for “genuine” boys’ education.
They further indicated they were not considering extending the school beyond Year 5.
The college announced in a release this morning that the process of reintroducing Years 5 and 6 to the college had been a ‘rigorous, two-year process.’
The reveal came after the release of the college’s extensive development proposal before Ipswich City Council, which detailed their master plan for the Woodend campus.
The proposal included a refurbishment of the College’s arts building; two extra classrooms in a building extension; and six demountable buildings to be used as temporary classrooms during 2024.
St Edmund’s College Principal Ray Celegato said junior school students would have access to a purpose designed Junior School.
“The Eddies Junior School will be a smaller, close-knit community that provides younger boys with a rigorous and inspiring educational experience,” he said.
“This is an exciting new chapter for Eddies. We are and always will be dedicated to providing a well-rounded, inclusive Catholic education in the Edmund Rice Tradition for all our young men.”
Year 5 and 6 facilities are due to be completed before 2025.
The College is now accepting expressions of interest for future junior school students, with enrolment interviews expected to begin early next year.
