A Gympie court has heard the sickening series of brutal assaults the man inflicted on a woman during six years of terror, including the moment he threw her across the room and pushed her through a balcony railing.

A 42-year-old Surat man waged six years of violence against a woman he was in a relationship with during which time he pushed her through a veranda railing and stalked her after they broke up.

Tyson Daniel White appeared in Gympie District Court via video link from the Woodford Correctional Centre on Friday, where he pleaded guilty to three charges of assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence), common assault (domestic violence offence) and unlawful stalking (domestic violence offence) spanning from July 2012 to February 2018.

White was between 32 and 38 years old at the time.

He had no supporters in the public gallery, and remained expressionless throughout his appearance.

The court heard the violence began in July 2012 during a heated argument between White and a woman.

Crown Prosecutor Alex Stark said White called the woman a “wh***” and she ran at him, enraged.

White then grabbed the woman by the throat and threw her across the room.

She landed on top of a portable fan, which caused bruising on her back, the court heard.

“She screamed out for the children to call police, he pinned her down again, striking, punching and hitting her while her children attempted to intervene,” Mr Stark said.

In November, White slapped the woman across the face with the back of his hand and her nose started to bleed.

The violence escalated more than a year later during an argument on a veranda, where White threw the woman to the ground and said “you make me want to kill you”, before he pushed her through a railing.

Three years later, in September 2017, during another argument, White backed the woman into the corner of a shed and slapped her so hard her head struck the wall.

The court heard the pair went their separate ways, but in December 2017, White tried to contact the woman several times through texts and calls, but when these went unanswered he created a fake Facebook profile to reach her.

That same month, White gained access to the woman’s Facebook profile, took screenshots of private messages and changed the passwords to lock her out of the account.

Then, in February, while visiting his young daughters, he approached and filmed the woman, demanding to know what she told police in her statement.

A victim impact statement presented to the court described the woman living in constant fear for her and her children’s safety; so much so they were forced to relocate to avoid being found by White.

Defence barrister James Godbolt said the relationship between his client and the victim was “volatile”.

White was described as a “hard working man” with an excellent job history.

Mr Godbolt said a fatal crash at Coles Creek in 2018, where White’s then partner, Paige Jones, died was a turning point in his life.

Since the offending he said White had gotten married, and his wife described him as a “very positive father figure to her children”.

White, who was already serving another sentence in prison, was sentenced to 12 months behind bars by Judge Amanda McDonnell, which will be suspended after his release on November 21, 2022.
