A Sexual Violence Awareness Month Event will take place in Memorial Park in late October to raise awareness of the issue in the Gympie region and send a message that sexual violence will not be tolerated.
A statement released by police officer Debbie Page and myPolice Gympie this week said the event would “raise community awareness about sexual violence and promote the support options available to people affected by sexual assault and sexual abuse”.
“Please come and join us for an evening in the park to raise awareness and show victim-survivors that we are listening and support them,” the statement read.
“Let’s come together as one and help us send a clear message that sexual violence will not be tolerated in our community.”
The event will be held on Wednesday, October 30, between 4-6pm, and feature Welcome to Country, questions and answers panel, guest speakers, live music and a free sausage sizzle, plus free giveaways.
