Smoke alert: Fireys work to contain grass fire in Amamoor

A smoke warning remains in place for parts of the Mary Valley after a fire started on Sunday afternoon and continues to burn.

UPDATE:

One crew has arrived on scene at the Kandanga Amamoor Rd grass fire on Monday morning at 9:00am.

The Kandanga Rural Fire Brigade was one of the crews working to contain the fire yesterday and said they had a “busy weekend”.

“Although it is great weather to burn at the moment, it is important to make sure you comply to permit condition,” the said on Facebook.

“Ensure you have good breaks, adequate water and a back up plan.”

EARLIER:

A smoke warning has been issued for Amamoor in the Mary Valley after a grass fire started on Sunday afternoon (13 June).

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson said five rural fire crews are currently on scene working to contain the blaze, which started at 3:44pm.

The fire burning near Kandanga Amamoor Rd in inaccessible country is approximately the size of one acre in size and is posing no threat to property.

Smoke is currently affecting South of Gympie.
