The young good Samaritan hit by a car while trying to help two drivers following a fatal accident just west of Gympie last Thursday night, has been described as a “beautiful, selfless” mother of three and respected Imbil teacher.

Rachel Fleming, 28, was the first to arrive on the scene of the Thursday night (June 3) crash on Glastonbury Rd, and selflessly got out of her own car to help.

She saw one driver walking around, but the second driver - later identified as a 51-year-old Widgee man - had already died from his injuries.

Mrs Fleming’s best friend, Hanna Logan, said her friend had asked for the first man’s phone to call 000, as her own phone was in the car with her two children, aged 11 and two.

“As she dialed 000, the oncoming car smashed into them both, knocking her unconscious,” Ms Logan said.

“She has no recollection from the moment she was hit until she was woken 20 minutes later.”

The two children stayed in the car and were not hurt in the incident.

Another of Mrs Fleming’s friends who created the GoFundMe, Talia Eaton, said the accident had left Rachel’s family in financial hardship.

“Rachel is unable to return to work indefinitely and her husband, Beau, needs to stay home and care for not only her, but their young family,” Ms Eaton said.

“Rach never asks for anything. She is the kindest, most selfless human who stopped to do the right thing when the unimaginable happened.

“A little can go a long way, so please, if you can spare anything at all, it will go towards keeping a much loved and deserving family above water while they take the time to recover.”
