Police have provided an update on the circumstances of a horror Gympie region crash that claimed the life of a 51-year-old Widgee man on Thursday night.
EARLIER: Man dead, two injured in horror head-on smash in Gympie
Clarified reports of the crash revealed a ute travelling west on Glastonbury Road collided with a four-wheel-drive travelling in the opposite direction at about 6.25pm Thursday night.
Earlier police reported indicated the crash had occurred on the corner of Glastonbury Creek Rd and Gordon St.
The four-wheel-drive left Glastonbury Rd and stopped in a drain, while the ute came to rest in the middle of the road, new police details reveal.
Another car stopped and the driver, a 28-year-old Lagoon Pocket woman, got out to try to help the crash victims but was struck by a fourth vehicle.

The driver of the ute, a 51-year-old Widgee man, died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the four-wheel drive, a 54-year-old Amamoor Creek man, and the woman who stopped to render assistance, a 28-year-old Lagoon Pocket woman, were both transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the fourth car was transported to Gympie Hospital as a precaution.
Forensic Crash Unit investigators have appealed for any witnesses or motorists with dashcam vision to contact police.
