Rainbow Beach State School has received a Woolworths Junior Landcare grant to help it buy new equipment, including a native beehive.

The school was awarded the $1500 grant to purchase a native beehive and three portable vegepods for students to plant vegetables during term three, and to harvest during term four for their cooking class.

Vegepods are a raised gardening bed sitting in a trolley with optional wheels, a soil depth of one foot and a commercial grade canopy to keep pests and predators away.

The school garden will also be receiving a revamp, with groundsman Michael White refurbishing an existing six garden beds and three new in-ground garden beds.

The Woolworths Junior Landcare grant awarded 1609 Australian primary schools and early learning centres with grants up to $1,000, and awarded an extra $500 to applicants with projects that support bees.
