An iconic Gympie home with unbeatable views near St Patrick’s primary school has hit the market for the first time since it was built in 1980.
Located at 43 Bligh Street near St Patrick’s Primary School, the house was the family home of well known community stalwarts Bill and Shirley Bishop who built the house after they bought the land for $5000.
The house is 1055sq m and has four bedrooms and two bathrooms, with an interior design as iconic and elegant as its owners.
It has an unparalleled view of Gympie, looking out over to the showgrounds and Pie Creek.

Mr and Mrs Bishop bought the property 43 years ago, then built their home, which has become a unique landmark in Gympie, boasting a “time warp’’ yellow kitchen, beautifully preserved living rooms with wooden beams and expansive courtyards and studies.
The Bishops are as iconic as the house, and while Mr Bishop died in January 2022, he left behind a legacy of what Gympie is well-known for.
As a grazier and businessman, Mr Bishop played an important role in making the Gympie Show Society what it is today, and helped recover the Gympie Turf club after it was deregistered.
The home has been put up for sale now that Mrs Bishop has made the move into an aged care facility.
Mrs Bishop has her own string of accolades, and received and Order of Australia in 2014 for her volunteer work.
She worked for a time as a St Patrick’s Parish council member, a volunteer at catholic schools, a charity centre volunteer, member of the Gympie Conference of the St Vincent de Paul Society and a volunteer with church debutante training.
“I’m hoping to find a buyer who will appreciate the quality of the treasured home,” said real estate agent Ronnie Cochrane.
The attention to detail of the home is a reflection of the Bishops’ legacy to the care, love and attention they gave to the Gympie region community.
The property is for sale for offers over $1million.
