Police have charged a man over a horror 2020 crash west of Gympie which killed a 59-year-old woman.

Steven David Curtis has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance over the crash at Lower Wonga.

A 36-year-old man will face court over the death of a 59-year-old woman following a horror crash on the Wide Bay Hwy in 2020.

Emergency crews were called to the scene about 10.30am on October 14, 2020 after a white Holden Commodore and a Isuzu Dual Max D Cab ute collided head-on at high speed in broad daylight.

The woman was a passenger in the ute.

Steven David Curtis, 36, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.

She was flown to Royal Brisbane Hospital, but died four days later on October 18.

The driver of the ute, a 58-year-old from Veteran, was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

The Commodore’s driver was also flown to Brisbane with critical injuries.

Mr Curtis is scheduled to appear in Gympie Magistrates on October 16, 2023 by videolink.
