Overnight campers made the shock discovery of a dead body in the early hours of Monday morning.

Body found at popular overnight RV park near Gympie

Police say a person found dead at a popular park on the Old Bruce Highway outside of Gympie is believed to have died of suicide.

Officers were called to Chatsworth Park, a popular RV and camping stopover point about 3km north of the city, before 5.30am on Monday.

It is understood guests staying at the park found the body in a box truck that had pulled to the side of the site’s service road near its entrance to Vantage Rd.

Investigations are continuing.
