A teenager is fighting for life after suffering significant head, chest and leg injuries in a crash on the Bruce Highway.

The teenage boy has been flown to hospital while there were significant delays on the highway.

Paramedics and a rescue helicopter were on scene working to save the driver.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the young man was flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital with life-threatening head and leg injuries.

She said the two people in the truck were uninjured.

The Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight helicopter was called at 7am to the crash.

Police closed the northbound lanes of the highway and Queensland Fire Department firefighters cut the teenager from his car.

The LifeFlight helicopter landed on the highway close to the crash.

The LifeFlight critical care doctor and a Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic worked with other paramedics to treat him for life-threatening head and chest injuries.

He was flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the Bruce Hwy reopened at 9.30am but there was still heavy traffic and delays.

Traffic was being diverted via the Kenilworth exit.
