A pensioner’s abusive tirade against his now ex-partner over her work hours while she was at a popular restaurant has landed him a $400 fine.

The man pleaded guilty to one count of contravening a domestic violence order in Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday.

The court heard he entered the Gympie RSL to approach his then-partner on July 12, 2022.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, began shouting “abuse and profanities about her working too much”, police prosecutor Melissa Campbell told the court.

The RSL manager had to tell the man to leave several times before he eventually exited the venue.

Police visited the man’s house on September 30 regarding a separate matter, and questioned him about the tirade at the RSL.

He told the officers he recalled yelling at the woman about the number of hours she worked but “couldn’t recall the exact words” and considered his outburst to be “not good behaviour”.

The man, representing himself, was smiling and shaking his head while the facts were read out in court.

“I didn’t call her a heap of profanities, I said ‘I’m sick of this f------ situation’ basically,” he said.

“The moment I opened my mouth, I knew I said too much.”

He told the court he lived off Centrelink payments and was a homeowner.

He argued his then-partner received “family-friendly” hours from her workplace after his outburst but they have gone their “separate ways” since the incident.

He was fined $400 and a conviction was recorded.
