A 70-year-old man who police allege committed dozens of serious sex offences including rape and child grooming is before Gympie District Court.
Kenneth Hugh Douglas, 70, has been indicted on 39 charges to which he has yet to enter pleas.
These charges include 30 counts of rape, three counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12, one count each of grooming a child under 12 with intent to procure a sexual act, making child exploitation material, possessing child exploitation material, and two counts of unlawful possession of weapons.
Defence lawyer Kim Turvey said the case was “ready to proceed to sentence” but across the weekend, new developments made it difficult for that to happen in these sittings.
Judge Glen Cash adjourned the case until Tuesday, November 5, for further mention.
Mr Douglas, who did not appear at the indictment presentation, was remanded in custody.
