The parents of 20-year-old Charlee Chubb say they are “overwhelmed” with the extraordinary outpouring of support following the shock death of their daughter while she was working on a remote Northern Territory cattle farm.
Joanne Chubb thanked the Gympie community for its efforts, including a fundraiser to help with funeral costs that has received more than $45,000 in one day.
The 20-year-old died while riding her motorbike while mustering at Birrindudu Station in the Northern Territory at the weekend.
Birrindudu is one of the most remote cattle properties in Australia.
Mrs Chubb said she wanted those who worked with the Birrindudu Station to know there was nothing they could have done, they had been “so helpful” and the tragedy “would have happened in another place”.
“We take a lot of warmth knowing Charlee died doing what she loved,” Ms Chubb said.
The 20-year-old’s death has left the Gympie community heartbroken, with family and friends paying tribute to the “bright and beautiful soul”
The GoFundMe campaign, launched Tuesday by Gympie resident Shaun Ward, said Charlee had left Gympie in early 2024 to head to Roebuck Plains Station in Western Australia’s Kimberley region.
“She arrived on a Sunday afternoon in her trusty Toyota, with her saddle and swag in the back, ready for the adventure ahead,” fundraising organiser Shaun Ward said.
“Her presence was felt instantly; this tiny girl with a big heart approached with a smile, shook hands, and thanked her hosts with a sincerity that made an indelible impression on everyone she met.”
Mr Ward said Charlee “had a knack for fitting in with the crew, bonding over afternoon drinks, music, and chats about her beloved Broncos”.

“Now, in this time of unimaginable loss, we want to bring Charlee home to her family and honour her memory with the respect and care she deserves,” Mr Ward said.
He hoped the campaign would “ease the burden on her loved ones, helping cover the costs of bringing her home and her funeral arrangements”.
“The Roebuck crew and Charlee’s friends and family across the country have all expressed their grief, and though we can’t change what has happened, we can offer support in this difficult moment.”
The campaign had raised more than $7000 for Charlee’s family in less than three hours.
Charlee’s tragic death has sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes on social media from her family and friends.
Charlee’s sister Rachel said in a touching Facebook post “life will never be the same without you my Chooky, I’ll love you until the days run out & forever more”.
Broome’s Kristy Geddes said she was “devastated” by the news and “we didn’t think our hearts could break any further this year”.
The Gympie Touch Association said the Chubb family “have been long involved with our touch community, coming up through our junior ranks and playing together as a family in our seniors” and “our thoughts go out to the Chubb family during this difficult time”.
