Shocking new photos show the aftermath of a Bruce Highway crash which left a man and child fighting for their lives.
It comes after the crash between a truck and Suzuki Swift caused a highway-closing inferno on Thursday night.
A man in his 30s and a young girl suffered life-threatening injuries while a woman in her 20s and a 12-month-old baby boy were also hurt.
Police said the Suzuki was travelling northbound on the Bruce Highway about 5.40pm, when it crashed with a prime mover travelling the opposite direction at Aldershot, north of Maryborough.
Locals reported there was torrential rain and wild winds around the time of the crash.
The truck burst into flames but the driver, a man in his 40s who was treated at the scene but declined transport to hospital, managed to escape.
The second patient, a female in her 20s from the Suzuki sustained upper and lower limb injuries and was taken in a stable condition to Hervey Bay Hospital.
The third patient, a young girl, sustained head, limb and chest injuries and was taken in a life-threatening condition.
The fourth patient was a man his 30s who sustained a significant head injury and was also in a life-threatening condition and the fifth patient was a baby boy who sustained a head injury but was listed as stable.
Shocking images emerged from the scene of the catastrophic crash near Farrel Bridge at Saltwater Creek.
The highway was closed in both directions, with diversion put in place, while investigations were carried out into the cause of the crash.
It has since been reopened.
A second crash occurred on the Bruce Highway near Marybough at 8.50pm Thursday.
A spokeswoman from the Queensland Ambulance Service said one stable patient was treated in the wake of the Glenorchy crash.
QAS later reported a four vehicle crash at Elliot about 8.24pm on Childers Road.
Paramedics assessed three patients on scene, including a female in her 40s, a male in his 20s and a man in his 70s. They were taken to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.
