Joel Victor Hormaechea charged with dangerous driving
A driver accused of causing a devastating crash on the Bruce Highway, which left another man fighting for life, has had his case mentioned in court.

A man charged over a devastating two-car crash on the Bruce Hwy at Curra in 2024 was mentioned in a Maryborough court on Monday.
Joel Victor Hormaechea, 40, of Toogoom, was charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm after the crash which occurred about 10pm on March 20, 2024.
A 28-year-old man from the Rockhampton region was treated in the intensive care unit at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for suffering serious injuries after he was trapped in the wreckage of his LandCruiser after the crash.
The court heard Mr Hormaechea was in custody.
Defence lawyer Morgan Harris said the matter was a likely plea.
He asked for an adjournment to the next sittings of the district court.
Judge Anthony Rafter adjourned the matter and Mr Hormaechea was remanded in custody.
