Kyle James Richardson charged with dangerous driving causing death

The case against a 25-year-old man, who police allege was intoxicated and driving dangerously when he killed a beloved Qld mum in a Bruce Hwy head-on, has returned to court.

Kyle James Richardson was charged with driving uninsured, driving unlicensed, driving unregistered along with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance in the wake of the crash at Kanigan on December 21, 2023, that killed Sunshine Coast woman Cassandra Reilly.

Charges against a man charged over a crash on the Bruce Hwy near Gympie that claimed the life of a Sunshine Coast woman have been mentioned in the Maryborough District Court.

Kyle James Richardson, 25, is charged with driving uninsured, driving unlicensed, driving unregistered, and dangerous driving causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance after the crash at Kanigan on December 21, 2023 which killed 41-year0old Sunshine Coast mum Cassandra Reilly.

The crash happened just after 8.15pm on December 21, 2023, when a Nissan Terrano and Toyota Yaris travelling on the Bruce Hwy at Kanigan collided head on.

Mr Richardson, who is in custody, did not appear in court during the mention on Monday.

The case was briefly mentioned, and it was asked that the matter be adjourned to the next sittings of the district court.

Ms Reilly lived in the township of Reeseville, near Maleny in the Mary Valley, and it is understood she had family in Maryborough.

She had been working at a popular Caloundra cafe the Pastry Lab at the time of her tragic death.
