Gympie concreter Scott William Trask pleads guilty to drugs charges

A concreter who went through the courts a decade ago for having a small arsenal at his home, has added to his ‘absolutely terrible criminal history’.

The mother of a 45-year-old Gympie concreter has continued to support him despite his latest court appearance adding to an already “terrible” criminal history.

Scott William Trask’s ongoing drug problem landed him once again in court, this time at Gympie, where he pleaded guilty to possessing methamphetamine, possessing a glass or metal pipe, and driving on the Bruce Hwy with drugs in his saliva on December 15, 2022.

His mother sat quietly at the front of the public gallery during his sentencing, at one point being given tissues by police prosecutor Mel Campbell.

Trask’s defence lawyer told the court he was a qualified concreter by trade who had managed to continually find work despite his 20-year-long drug problems.

He was living with his mother at the time he was arrested, and the court was told his drug offending was only ever as a result of being a “user”.

Scott William Trask was sentenced to 18 months’ jail, with immediate release on parole, and fined $500 after pleading guilty to drug charges.

Magistrate Raelene Ellis rattled off a number of the entries in Trask’s “absolutely terrible criminal history” which showed he had already been given “ample opportunities for rehabilitation”.

These included a 15 month sentence in August 2021 for offences including receiving tainted property (he had been out on parole for 15 days before these charges were laid), two years’ jail in March 2021 for possessing dangerous drugs, and serious offences back in 2013 which were resolved in the Supreme Court.

He was handed a four year jail term in 2013, after being caught with two semi-automatic rifles, two homemade guns, silencers, ammunition, ninja stars, and growing 11 marijuana plants.

Trask was labelled a modern day “Rambo” during coverage of his stockpile, sentencing, and subsequently unsuccessful appeal for his sentence to be reopened. There was no suggestion that Trask ever used or attempted to use the weapons.

Ms Ellis sentenced Trask to 18 months jail but released him on parole immediately on the back of a “really good report … from the Department of Community Services”.

He was fined $500 and convictions were recorded.
