A 35-year-old Sexton man has been taken off the road for a month after blacking out behind the wheel of his car and crashing it through a barbed wire fence at Bells Bridge while drugs were running through his system.

Clinton John Bau pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court last Thursday to driving while a relevant drug was present in his blood after a test following the September 28 crash turned up traces of drugs including methamphetamine and marijuana.

The court heard he had been behind the wheel on the Wide Bay Highway when he blacked out, travelled on to the wrong side of the road and crashed through a barbed wire fence, coming to a stop about 50m into a private paddock.

The police prosecutor said Bau told officers after the crash he did not remember it happening.

Bau was fined $450 and disqualified for driving for one month.
