Cameron Laurie Brown pleads guilty to domestic violence crimes
A young Gympie man has been jailed for several months after violently attacking his partner in the garage of their home, leaving her crying and vomiting.

A Victory Height’s man’s abusive behaviour towards his partner has been labelled “cowardly” by a judge, who then jailed him for several months.
Cameron Laurie Brown, 26, faced court after he threatened, kicked and choked his partner of four years in the garage of their Gympie home on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
Gympie District Court heard the fight was over claims of infidelity.
Brown initially threatened to slap his victim across the face, then kicked her in the leg, and followed through with his initial threat.
The Gympie court heard he then grabbed the woman by the throat and choked her for five seconds, moving her around the garage as he did.
She started crying and vomiting when he left, it heard.

Responding police found her with “redness” on the side of her face and neck.
Brown had a three-page criminal history dating back to 2015 which consisted almost entirely of drug crimes, the court heard.
Defence barrister Phillip Hardcastle said Brown had studied at the Gympie Flexible Learning Centre until Year 12 before working in several jobs including on prawn trawlers, night fill at Woolworths, and as a fencer.

His mother lived in a refuge, he did not know who his father was and had “never met anyone claiming to be his father”.
Judge Brad Farr told Brown his actions were “cowardly”.
Brown pleaded guilty to making threats of violence with intent to alarm, common assault, and choking.
All were domestic violence offences.
He was sentenced to two years’ jail and, with 93 days already served in pre-sentence custody, will be released on parole on July 17, 2024.
