Letters: 'NO CHANGE to pensions', was the Coalition's promise before the 2013 election.

The message could not have been any clearer.

Now Mr Truss and Mr Abbott have done what they have been itching to do since they won the last election - they have broken their promise to pensioners.

These cuts will leave 330,000 pensioners worse off in their first year.

Over the next 10 years, more than a half of new retirees will be left worse off. Some single pensioners will lose $8000 and some couples will lose $14,000.

It is clear these pensioners are not rich; they are ordinary people who worked hard and managed to tuck some away for their old age. Nevertheless, Mr Truss and Mr Abbott are coming after it.

As National Seniors Australia chief executive Michael O'Neil said on the ABC's 7.30, "The outcome is unfair for middle Australia".

Mr Truss will no doubt argue the pension is unsustainable when every economist says it is the superannuation tax concessions to multi-millionaire retirees that is not sustainable.
