Man airlifted after 4WD towing caravan rolls near Gympie

A man was airlifted with serious chest injuries and lacerations after a car went out of control, ran into a ditch and hit a tree.

The Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew on Saturday airlifted a man after he was injured in a car crash.

The LifeFlight helicopter was called to the Gympie region scene just after 11am.

The man was driving a four-wheel drive which was towing a caravan.

When he lost control, the 4WD veered off the road into a ditch and hit a tree.

The 4WD and caravan both landed on their sides.

The LifeFlight crew was able to land the helicopter in a paddock, close to the incident.

Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire Department personnel were on the scene, when the aeromedical team arrived.

The LifeFlight critical care doctor and QAS flight paramedic worked alongside local paramedics to treat the man for chest injuries and lacerations.

The man, aged in his 60s, was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

A woman was also injured in the crash.

She was transported to a nearby hospital by Queensland Ambulance.
