By the way, those whinging about rate rises need to understand some facts.
It is difficult to compare rates on an individual basis. The true comparison is between councils’ total rate revenue collected.
It is interesting to note that the current council has increased total rate revenue collected by 3.2 per cent.
This is while repairing massive financial damage which threatened viability and was almost certainly heading towards administration. In comparison, the last Smith Curran budget increased total rate revenue collected by 5.3 per cent.
Those are facts.
