How Gympie event organisers and businesses are reacting to three-day lockdown

Gympie events are already starting to be called off while businesses are feeling the impact of the three-day lockdown that will affect surrounding regions.

Gympie organisers are starting to call off events following the state government’s announcement of a three-day lockdown that will affect surrounding regions.

The first casualty was the Christmas in July charity event organised by Variety Base for July 10, which has been cancelled due to “Covid concerns”.

“For those of you who have purchased your tickets, we apologise for your disappointment,” organisers posted on Facebook.

“We will organise a refund over the next couple of weeks.”

The Mary Valley Rattler also announced the cancellation of its Thursday and Friday services via a social media post.

“(The cancellations are) due to current Queensland Government and Queensland Health restrictions and driver availability in line with these restrictions,” the Facebook post read.

The region’s businesses have also been quick to respond to the lockdown news.

The Gympie Nextra team sprung into action by asking customers to wear a mask if they had “recently” been to the 11 local government areas facing lockdown.

Manager Kelly Goatham told the Gympie Times that “quite a few” of her customers had been wearing masks into the store.

“With the uncertainty of where people have been, even we don’t really know what the go is with what is considered recent,” she said.

“With Gympie not being in the affected map it’s really causing a reliance on honesty of customers.

“I think a lot of people are still seeking clarity on the situation.

“For the most part though people are seeming to be responsible about everything, we have the check-in codes and quite a few people are using them.

“Given how many people commute from here to the Coast and vice versa, I wonder whether we probably should’ve been part of the catchment area as well.”

Gympie Veterinary Surgery followed in Nextra’s footsteps, by letting customers know via Facebook that the business would be enforcing the mask restrictions.

“If you have been in an impacted area we do suggest rescheduling your appointment until this directive is amended by Qld Health,” the post read.
