Gympie avoids snap Queensland lockdown

The Gympie region has avoided a snap Queensland lockdown set to take effect from 6pm tonight.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Deputy Premier Steven Miles, Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young and Health Minister Yvette D’ath fronted the media at a press conference this morning, announcing four new Covid cases in Queensland for today.
It was announced the 11 Local Government Areas that had previously seen restrictions raised will now enter a snap lockdown for three days starting from 6pm tonight.
Gympie is not included in those 11 LGAs, and is not expected to be included within the lockdown; however a number of ongoing restrictions, including QR code scanning at local businesses, will apply.
It’s understood the Sunshine Coast will be included in the lockdown.
Pomona, Federal, Cooran and Kin Kin residents will be required to lock down as part of the Noosa Local Government Area.
The 11 council areas where masks are mandatory will lock down: Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Moreton, Scenic Rim, Somerset and Lockyer Valley.

Queensland Health have been contacted for clarification on what exactly the lockdown will mean for Gympie region residents, including restrictions which may apply for those who have left the region for any purpose or intend to leave the region for any purpose over the next three days.
Dr Young said people can leave home under lockdown conditions for four reasons: essential work, essential study, essential health care/vaccination and essential shopping, all to be conducted with a mask on.
