The former Gympie Devils junior who has already drawn comparisons to Greg Inglis and Latrell Mitchell has wasted no time making a splash in his fledgling NRL career.
18-year-old powerhouse winger Selwyn Cobbo opened his professional try-scoring account in just his second appearance for the Brisbane Broncos at the weekend, scoring late in his side’s loss to Canberra at GIO Stadium.
The 190cm, 101kg flyer was the beneficiary of a flash of brilliance from teammate Jesse Arthars, catching a flick pass from the centre and crossing to score along the right sideline in the 74th minute.
It would be the final try of the match, with the struggling Broncos going down 38-16 to the Raiders in the nation’s capital.
Already contracted to Brisbane until the end of next year, Cobbo recently knocked back rival interest to ink a 12-month extension keeping him at Red Hill until the end of 2023.
He made his debut the week before last, when the Broncos were pummelled 52-24 at the hands of the Dragons, one of the clubs that had tried to poach him.
“I stayed at the Broncos because they were my team growing up,” said Cobbo.
“Growing up, I had a goal to play in the NRL, especially for the Broncos, and now I want to try and get the club back up and running again.”

Cobbo should play game number three when the Broncos host the Bunnies at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night.
Fellow Gympie Devil and now Gold Coast Titan Tino Fa’asuamaleaui also found himself on the scoresheet over the weekend, scoring his second try for his new club in its heartbreaking loss to the Sydney Roosters.
