Gympie teens caught hooning in social media footage

Police have issued a warning after video emerged of a group of Gympie teenagers being towed in a shopping trolley behind a ute in the centre of the city. Watch the video:

A video has emerged of a group of Gympie teenagers being towed by a ute in a shopping trolley late at night in the heart of the city.

The footage, shared on social media on Monday night as a Facebook Story, shows the group of five or six towing each other behind a flat-bed ute in what appears to be the Nelson Reserve carpark off Jaycee Way, in the CBD.

It is understood several adults were involved as well.

At one point the trolley carrying two of the youths tips over and spills one on to the asphalt to gales of laughter.

A second teen remains in the trolley while someone else calls out “he’s still going, he’s still going”.

Gympie teenagers have shared footage on social media of themselves riding a shopping trolley while being towed behind ute in the CBD.

The teens can then be seen grabbing hold of the trolley and engaging in a tug of war with the ute.

The driver of the ute then takes off around the carpark, dragging the trolley in its wake, whipping it around turns and sending sparks flying.

Some of the teens ride on the back of the ute as it hoons around the carpark, spinning its tyres and doing doughnuts.

Police said these types of behaviours “are dangerous and can result in serious injuries or loss of life”.

They urged anyone who witnessed or had knowledge of these events to contact them through PoliceLink at 131444 and provide “secure digital evidence” through the online hooning or traffic complaint line.

“If anyone has information regarding the identity of the persons involved, they are encouraged to contact police,” police said.

“Anonymous reports can be made.”
