Gympie Saddleworld and Country has become an international star thanks to a “quirky” and cheeky online jeans ad which has racked up almost 2 million views.

The equestrian and fashion company’s video has drawn eyeballs from as far away as the United States since its launch, racking up a massive number of views, shares and likes.

Its view count is more than 60 times the 31,000 followers Gympie Saddleworld has accrued on its page, proving a boon for business owner Melissa Boully.

The 46-second clip, called “when guys come in to get a new pair of jeans”, is a strikingly familiar scenario for anyone who has been clothes shopping with a young bloke.

The bloke in question in the clip, played by rising Queensland social media star Tylen Wallace, is on a mission slightly more mundane than from God.

What he needs is new jeans.

The problem is “mum usually buys them for me”.

Cue the shop assistant, Saddleworld’s own Codie Winston, whose knowledge of jeans and fashion bamboozles the young lad who struggles discerning whether a question is about his age or his waistline.

Mrs Boully said she met Mr Wallace – a Central Queensland local who runs his own country and agriculture-centric Instagram account boasting more than 131,000 followers, and a similar TikTok profile with about 14,000 followers – through equestrian events around the region.

He was a natural choice to take a chance on social media having herself watched his success grow online, she said.

“It was my idea to collaborate with someone I’d ridden with over the years,” Mrs Boully said.

The clip was one of “a few different videos” filmed with Mr Wallace on the day, of which several were run on his own pages.

Mrs Boully was “thrilled” the video had taken off, with international residents among its viewers including one commenter who says they “forget Australia has cowboys” and another pointing out the correct term is “jackaroos”.

She said its combination of “quirkiness” and relatability was a key draw.

“We all need jeans and belts and hats,” Mrs Boully said.

The ending, with the bloke taking several sets off the shelf and heading straight to the counter, struck a familiar nerve too with another viewing saying “not trying them (on) is real”.

Mrs Boully said it was “pretty cool” to have that reception.

“We didn’t know how well it was going to work,” she said.

“We didn’t know what to expect.”

The video’s online success joins that of another Gympie region business which found social media stardom in less than 30 seconds.

Cooly Fruit Gympie became an online TikTok hit in July thanks to its video of two young workers showing what happens when a cafe runs out of cups, with hilarious and explosive results.

Its video has drawn more than four million eyeballs since it went live.
