Gympie teenagers Emily Groves and Georgia Walters clearly have a lot of fun together working at their local fruit shop and making the odd funny video to help promote the store.
Their most recent effort - purportedly showing what to do when you run out of cups - involves Emily laying back while Georgia makes an iced chocolate directly into her mouth.
Only running for a few seconds, the TikTok rapidly culminates in a volcanic eruption as Emily puts the finishing touch of canned whipped cream on the “drink” and it all gets too much for Georgia, who laughs and sends the contents up and out in a spectacular explosion.
Since being posted on June 17, 2024, the video has clocked up 3.8 million views, followers, shares and comments.
Eighteen-year-old Emily said she and Georgia borrowed the idea from other cafes that were making the same kind of videos.
“The idea is not one of our originals,” she said.
“We saw some cafe did the same video and it was trending so we thought we do the same.”
Fifteen-year-old Georgia said it was a fun and messy experience but worth it in the end.
“It’s obviously fun getting the attention from it and even many customers now recognise us from the video,” she said.
”We’re very happy, super excited and it was unexpected but it created a lot of following for us, the amount of comments is huge and many people have been talking about it.
“Someone said when the chocolate was spouting out of Georgia’s mouth that it looked like a volcano erupting,” Emily said.
“Another one said they watched it 50 times and couldn’t stop laughing about it.”
“Others were tagging their friends saying ‘me and my friend’ if we had a job together.”
Among the more than 5300 comments are these:
“No way, that’s in my shopping centre, I think I know that place, another one replied.”
“I keep watching it on repeat and I am dying of laughter.”
“Yeah boss, this is just to advertise the shop? We promise!”
Emily said they had to prepare for different parts of the act in making the video.
“We set the sitting position first, and one person had to prepare to take the embarrassment and messiness,” she said.
“Georgia was the subject in play and I poured a glass of cold chocolate into her mouth and then added a whipped cream on top to mix it which created the explosion.
“Many companies have reached out to us asking if they could share and post the video to give more exposure and that they would share with us any profits if they make money out of it,” she said.
Emily graduated from James Nash State High School in 2023, and is in her gap year and had been working at Cooly Fruit for two years.
Georgia is in Year 10, also at James Nash, and has been working at Cooly Fruit for about a year.
“I’m saving up for a car, I want to have a gap year and travel the world and I’m going skydiving in Noosa very soon,” Georgia said.
Emily plans to study Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland in 2025, and Georgia wants to study physiotherapy once she finished high school.
“We started our TikTok account four months ago with some of our initial videos hitting 200 views, 400 views and 4000 views,” she said.
“This one has definitely made our shop more popular.
“We have a lot of ideas and we want to continue posting more TikTok videos on our account,” Georgia said.
“We really thank those who follow us, share or comment on our videos, thank all you very much,” Emily said.
