Gympie region police book 15 drivers for speeding

Speeding is out of control on too many Gympie region roads, especially in the Mary Valley, where a police crackdown has busted drivers from Kandanga, Bollier, Imbil and Brooloo. Read the details on how fast they were going:

Police in the Gympie Patrol Group released a statement on Monday following several disturbing incidents of speeding on notorious roads.

They said they were “disappointed to detect far too many motorists disobeying the speed limit on the Mary Valley Road, Old Bruce Highway, Bruce Highway and Kenilworth Skyring Creek Road in the last four weeks”.

One driver was detected high-end speeding (40km/h above), fined $1286 and stripped of eight demerit points. Police will allege a 42-year-old Agnes Water woman on the Bruce Highway at Coles Creek was detected travelling at 153km/h in a 110km/h zone.

Nine drivers were detected exceeding the speed limit in a speed zone by at least 13km/h but not more than 20km/h, which incurs a fine of $275 and a loss of three demerit points.

A further four drivers were detected exceeding the speed limit in speed zone by more than 20km/h but not more than 30km/h which incurs a fine of $459 and a loss of four demerit points.

One driver was detected exceeding speed limit in speed zone by less than 13km/h which incurs a $183 fine and loss of one demerit point.

At about 11.45am on Monday, February 14, police will allege they detected a vehicle travelling at 97km/h in an 80km/h speed zone on Mary Valley Road at Kandanga. The 32-year-old male driver from Bollier was fined $275 and three demerit points.

A short time later around 12pm, a 27-year-old Imbil woman on Mary Valley Road, Kandanga was detected travelling at 100km/h in an 80km/h speed zone. She was also issued infringement notices for Learner fail to display legible L plate(s), fined $220 and 2 demerit points, and Learner drive motor vehicle not under direction of authorised supervisor or not seated next to supervisor, fined $220, 4 demerit points.

At about 12.15pm that same day, police detected a 25-year-old Kandanga man driving on Mary Valley Road, Amamoor travelling at 100km/h in an 80km/h speed zone.

Around 12.50pm, a 54-year-old Brooloo woman driving on the Old Bruce Highway, Tuchekoi was detected travelling at 80km/h in a 60km/h speed zone.

Police will allege that around 10.50am on Sunday, February 20, a 79-year-old Traveston man on the Old Bruce Highway, Traveston was detected travelling at 84km/h in a 60km/h speed zone.

At about 12.30pm that same day, a 19-year-old Gleneagle woman driving on Mary Valley Road, Kandanga was detected travelling at 105km/h in an 80km/h speed zone. She was also issued an infringement notice for P2 licence holder fail to display clearly legible green P plate(s) visible from 20m, and was fined $220 and 2 demerit points. QP2200302111 refers.

Around 11.40am on Sunday, March 13, a 54-year-old Kepnock man driving on Kenilworth Skyring Creek Road, Tuchekoi was detected travelling at 94km/h in an 80km/h speed zone.

Police will allege at about 4.30pm that same day on the Old Bruce Highway, Coles Creek, a 37-year-old Tivoli man was detected travelling at 125km/h in a 100km/h speed zone.
