Police investigate thefts at flood affected Gympie businesses

Gympie police are investigating a series of thefts at flood impacted businesses in the city, and one car, as the community scrambles to clean up and recover from its worst natural disaster in 120 years. Here is what we know:

Police are appealing for public help after a series of thefts in Gympie during the height of the February floods.

Between 10am and 12noon on March 2, thieves targeted a grey Hilux parked on Reef St while the owner was helping with the flood clean-up.

A pair of Rayban sunglasses and Apple Airpod Pros were stolen.

Then, between 9pm on March 4 and 7am on March 5, thieves entered an open Mary St business that had been flooded and damaged.

Cleaning equipment, two slow cookers, an Atura deep fryer, assorted glassware, plates and an Ozito battery powered impact driver were taken.

Later, at about 12.34am on March 7, a single-cab four wheel drive with a small trailer attached with ramps out the back visited a Brisbane Rd business affected by flooding.

Two rolls of black concrete plastic and steel framework were stolen.

Investigations are continuing into all three thefts.

Police urge anyone who witnessed or witnesses suspicious behaviour near flooded properties or businesses to contact police.
