Gabe Tickner, Douglas Williams face torture charges over Gympie robbery

Police have charged these two men with torture and deprivation of liberty after an alleged violent home invasion at Gympie.

Two men have been charged with torture and deprivation of liberty after an alleged armed robbery at a Gympie home.

Gabe Ian Tickner, 42, from the Dawn, and Douglas John Williams, 43, from Taabinga in the South Burnett, have each been charged with multiple offences over the alleged incident on September 30, 2024.

The pair is alleged to have entered the home at Tweed Lane, less than 100m from One Mile State School, where they detained and tortured him during the theft.

Mr Tickner, who appeared at Gympie Magistrates Court Monday, is facing charges of torture, wounding, deprivation of liberty, grievous bodily harm, armed robbery in company with violence, stealing lawn equipment, and wilful damage.

He is also facing unrelated charges of possessing dangerous drugs, producing marijuana, possessing drug utensils, failing to dispose of a used syringe, possessing a weapon (a billy club), and breaching bail.

Defence lawyer Jacob Pruden, who appeared by phone, asked for an adjournment of committal mention.

This would allow him to discuss with the prosecution cross-examination of witnesses at the committal hearing, the court was told.

Mr Tickner’s case was adjourned until Monday, September 15, 2025.

Mr Williams, who was not scheduled to appear at Monday’s mentions, has been charged with torture, deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm, armed robbery with violence, wilful damage, and stealing.

Mr Williams is scheduled to return to the court on Monday, August 18, 2025.

No pleas have been entered by either man.
