The internet connectivity within the Wide Bay is expected to improve with the new installation of hybrid power cubes, which are said to maintain power and internet connectivity during times of natural or other disasters.
The installation is part of the $4.4 million nbn Hybrid Power Cube Project funded under the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants Program, allowing for 33 Hybrid Power Cubes to be distributed across regional Queensland, including the Fraser Coast, Gympie, North Burnett and Bundaberg region.
An nbn spokesperson said hybrid power cubes were “environmentally friendly, hybrid technology power generation units” that combined solar panels, battery and a compact diesel generator.
“It provides solar power to fixed wireless hub sites during the day and, for power resilience, relies on excess battery and grid power at night,” they said.
