Bundaberg residents can look forward to a spectacular celebration as the Bundaberg Regional Council plans a community-led New Year’s Eve fireworks event to ring in 2025.
This marks the return of the highly anticipated fireworks display, which has been absent since 2018.

Mayor Helen Blackburn expressed her pride in announcing that the Council would spearhead the return of this riverside tradition.
“Our community is telling us they want an event where they can celebrate the New Year together,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“We’ve not only listened but we’re working with local businesses to see the event returned and fully funded by sponsorship.”

The last New Year’s Eve fireworks display in Bundaberg took place in 2018.
However, the 2019 display was cancelled due to fire restrictions that were in place at the time.

Bundaberg Regional Council made the difficult decision to cancel the event, with Cr Judy Peters, the council’s community and cultural services spokesman, explaining that the restrictions made it necessary.

Now, the fireworks will return in full force on December 31, 2024, in Lions Park, offering the community a chance to ring in 2025 with a dazzling display.

Early discussions have already shown a high level of interest and support for the event.
“It’s the intention that we will secure enough support to make the event cost-neutral to ratepayers with Council’s contribution being in-kind through staff time and available resources,” Mayor Blackburn said.
