Alec Campbell Jardine granted bail over alleged Gympie stabbing

Another teenager allegedly involved in the stabbing of Gympie boxer Danny Hawkins in the front yard of his Parsons Road home has fronted the Gympie court.

A fifth person charged with being involved in the wounding of Gympie boxer Danny Hawkins at his home on September 18 has been granted bail in Gympie Magistrates Court.

Deep Creek teenager Alec Campbell Jardine, 19, was named as the fifth and final person charged over the alleged stabbing of Danny Hawkins on September 18.

Mr Jardine was originally not charged over his involvement in the alleged stabbing, but was then charged on September 21 with acts intending to cause grievous bodily harm.

He and his co-accused, Ben Colin Buggy, Israel Colin Buggy, Bronson Israel Buggy and Callum Robert McClay were charged with the same offence.

Mr McClay was also charged with a number of drug-related offences.

Police allege Mr Hawkins was ambushed by the five armed men while he and his family were building a cubby in the front yard of his Parsons Road home on Saturday, September 18.

Mr Jardine was the only person to be charged over the alleged stabbing to be granted bail, with Ben Buggy’s bail application denied on September 20.

Danny Hawkins was flown to hospital with penetrating wounds to his chest and stomach after the incident.

The remaining co-accused did not apply for bail.

Mr Jardine and the other four accused men will return to Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday, November 8.
