An exclusion zone is in place and multiple emergency crews are on scene at a hazmat incident in Tannum Sands.

Crews were called to a structure on Garnet St, arriving about 1.20pm.

A spokeswoman for Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said there were concerns for some chemicals inside a container located near some shops.

It is understood to involve “pool type chemicals”.

The spokeswoman said an exclusion zone of 50m had been established with neighbouring shops evacuated.

She said there were four fire crews on scene, with one of them a scientific crew.

A QFES spokesman said two fire personnel were in breathing apparatus conducting atmospheric monitoring while others were ventilating the structure.

Police and paramedics are also on scene.
