Police witnessed a man drag his victim screaming from a hotel balcony just minutes after dealing with him over an earlier disturbance.

The man, 41, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Friday to three contraventions of domestic violence orders.

Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins told the court police were called to attend the Highpoint International Hotel on Roseberry Street around 9pm on September 18.

“In relation to a woman being dragged screaming from a second-floor balcony into an apartment,” she said.

“Police were pointed to a room and attended to find the aggrieved and her two children in the room.

“The aggrieved stated to police nothing much had happened and that it was only a small verbal argument which had become heated on the balcony.”

Police left the room and exited the building, only to hear an angry man’s voice coming from the balcony of the same room.

The man pleaded guilty to three domestic violence charges.

They stopped and saw the aggrieved sitting in a chair on the balcony with the defendant bent over screaming at her words to the effect of “run your f---ing mouth”.

The defendant stopped and saw police standing on the footpath watching him and immediately stood up and headed inside.

Police re-attended the defendant’s room and he was subsequently arrested and issued a notice to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court. It was just nine minutes after his first offence.

The defendant’s lawyer Rio Ramos said her client and the aggrieved were still on talking terms even after his recent offending.

“My client has well and truly learnt his lesson and will not be engaging in this behaviour again,” she said.

“All sentencing options are still relevant at this stage, but I would ask Your Honour for him to be immediately released on parole.”

Magistrate Bevan Manthey said the defendant was a mature offender who had continued to breach court orders while on bail.

“It’s just another classic example that comes before this court of a gutless, woman-bullying perpetrator which will not be tolerated,” Mr Manthey said.

The defendant was convicted and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, wholly suspended for two years and he was released on parole after serving 47 days of pre-sentence custody. Convictions were recorded.
