A Central Queensland mother was busted by police driving drunk, unlicensed and speeding on a major highway.
Taylor Monaghan, 25, pleaded guilty to the two charges on Monday in Gladstone Magistrates Court.
Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Tania Griffiths told the court Monaghan was intercepted by Miriam Vale police driving a blue Holden Cruze on the Bruce Highway.
“The car was seen to be exceeding the speed limit and travelling at 115 kilometres per hour in a 100 zone,” Ms Griffiths said.
Upon taking up with Monaghan, police asked her to produce her licence so it could be checked.
“The defendant stated she did not have a licence and she had to make a phone call,” Ms Griffiths said.
Police checks on Monaghan’s licence confirmed she was disqualified by court order until August.
Monaghan then submitted to a breath test which returned a positive indication and she was detained.
When questioned regarding her alcohol consumption that day, Monaghan said she had drunk Wild Turkey bourbon that day, however, was not sure how much.
Monaghan told police she made the decision to drink and drive following a fight with her partner which had upset her.
“The defendant stated she had placed her bird and two children in the car and was driving in an unknown direction,” Ms Griffiths said.
Her second blood-alcohol test returned another positive result with a blood-alcohol reading of .154 - which is more than three times the limit.
Monaghan’s lawyer Jun Pepito said the only reason she was behind the wheel at the time was because of the fight with her partner which was mentioned by the prosecution.
Acting Magistrate Ann Gummow convicted and fined Monaghan $800 and suspended her from driving for two years and three months.
Convictions were recorded.
