A serial Central Queensland domestic violence offender was “emotionally manipulative” towards his latest victim and told her she “should get raped,” a court has heard.

The 29-year-old man, who by law cannot be named, appeared in custody in Gladstone Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to charges including five counts of contravening a domestic violence order.

The court heard the man had a 13-page criminal history which included 26 previous convictions for contravening domestic violence orders.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Jessica McLaren said the man’s latest offending did not involve any physical violence but rather, it was “emotionally manipulative” towards the female victim and involved him making derogatory comments to her.

“He made the comments that she was a sl** and she should get raped,” Snr Const McLaren said.

The prosecutor said the man’s other offending involved him sending the woman abusive text messages and leaving her abusive phone messages.

The court heard the man also called the woman “a dog, scum and a cousin f***er.”

“A period of imprisonment is in range for this (latest) offending,” Snr Const McLaren said.

Solicitor Bianca Wieland said the man’s early guilty pleas indicated his remorse for the offending.

Ms Wieland said the man, a single dad, had been a methamphetamine user and he was unemployed at the time of his incarceration.

Prior to sentencing, Magistrate Mary Buchanan noted the man had previously been given probation, suspended sentences, and he’d also served actual jail time for his offending but yet he continued to offend.

For the latest offences, Ms Buchanan sentenced him to seven months’ jail, declared 42 days’ pre-sentence custody as time already served, and fixed immediate parole.

Convictions were recorded.
