Robert Noel Hughes pleaded guilty to drug and unlicensed driving in Gladstone Magistrates Court

What started as a driver’s licence check ended in a court date for a Gladstone man.

Robert Noel Hughes, 32, pleaded guilty in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday to drug driving and unlicensed driving.

On June 6, 2o20, around 12.45pm, Calliope police were patrolling Bruce Highway, Bororen when they intercepted Hughes driving a white Mitsubishi sedan.

Police checks on Hughes’ licence revealed he was SPER suspended on March 27, 2020.

Hughes said he was unaware he was unlicensed and had moved home recently and not informed Queensland Transport of his new address.

Further, Hughes submitted to a roadside drug test which returned a positive result and he was taken to the Miriam Vale police station.

Hughes’ second drug test returned a positive result for methamphetamine and cannabis.

Magistrate Bevan Manthey convicted and fined Hughes $900 and suspended him from driving for four months. Convictions were recorded.
