A midwife working for Queensland Health has been suspended after she was accused of supplying the drugs ice and cannabis on dozens of occasions, and slapped with 50 charges.

Kristy Lee Benson, a mum-of-two from Gracemere in the Rockhampton Region, was suspended from practising as a midwife by the healthcare watchdog on September 11.

According to her LinkedIn profile Benson has been most recently working as a midwife at Rockhampton Hospital but has also worked for Outreach Doctors in Hervey Bay.

Her suspension came two months after the 34-year-old’s first appearance in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 4 on three drug-related charges.

On July 31 she was again granted bail on 47 further drug-related charges.

They include 45 counts of drug supply from May 5 to June 14, as well as two counts of drug possession alleged to have occurred on June 15 this year, and one charge of refusing to give police access to her electronically stored information on June 21.

Six of the supply charges relate to cannabis, with other supply charges relating to supplying ice from her home in Gracemere.

Benson, who was born in the Victorian town of Geelong, was granted bail on July 4 on condition she not contact alleged co-offender Krysty Bennett, court documents state.

She graduated with her midwifery degree from the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2021, where she was also an indigenous academic mentor, her LinkedIn profile states.

Until 2019 she was the owner of Cave Woman Doula and Counsellor.

“I am passionate about delivering woman-centred, evidence-based care to women, in pregnancy, birth and beyond,” Benson states in her online profile.

She is due back in court on October 9.
