A Central Queensland man responsible for a service station assault was on a suspended jail sentence at the time, a court has heard.

Mascot Campbell Solomon, 36, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to assault occasioning bodily harm and public nuisance.

The court heard that on September 21 last year, Solomon was at a United Petroleum carpark when he got into an argument with another man.

Solomon grabbed the man by the throat and pushed him, saying: “I thought it was you... you look like a serial killer over here.”

Solomon continued to verbally abuse the man who called police.

Solomon had a five-page criminal history and at the time of committing these latest offences, he was on a suspended sentence for a going armed to cause fear offence.

Solicitor Bianca Wieland said Solomon, unemployed, had previously worked as a landscaper, plumber, bricklayer and meatworker.

Ms Wieland said at the time of the offending, Solomon had been drinking after a personal matter upset him.

“He is very remorseful for his actions,” Ms Wieland said.

“He has completely stopped drinking since that time.”

Magistrate Mary Buchanan activated the suspended sentence and sentenced Solomon to six months’ jail with immediate parole.

“So effectively, it’s nine months that you’ll be on parole for,” she said.

Convictions were recorded.
