Two young men including a tobacconist have faced court after they were nabbed in an ecstasy bust at Yeppoon.

Harrison Michael Egan, 21, and Harrison Allen, 20, appeared separately in Yeppoon Magistrates Court where they each pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs.

In relation to Egan, the court heard that on April 26 at 9.20pm, police were conducting patrols in Yeppoon when they saw him loitering at the front of the Pacific Hotel.

After speaking to Egan, officers detained him for a drug search.

In the left pocket of Egan’s pants was a clip-seal bag containing 18 MDMA tablets - 16 white ones and two red and yellow ones.

Egan, who had no criminal history, told police the drugs were his.

A solicitor said Egan was not eligible for the traditional drug diversion program.

In relation to Allen, the court heard he was also busted with MDMA on the same night at Yeppoon.

It was told police were patrolling James Street when they saw a man (not Allen), standing on the kerb, leaning into the passenger side of a white Suzuki Swift.

As police approached the man, he stood up, immediately shut the car door and walked away “very quickly”.

The Suzuki Swift also immediately left the scene and travelled along James Street before it was intercepted by police.

Allen was a passenger in the car.

During a search of the vehicle, police found a tobacco pouch under Allen’s passenger seat containing 31 MDMA tablets - 28 white ones and three green ones.

Allen was arrested and taken to a police car.

Once in the police vehicle, Allen started “patting himself down” and then asked police where his tobacco pouch was.

Police told him they found it in the Suzuki Swift and it contained MDMA.

Allen, who had no criminal history, then replied: “F***”.

He was taken to the police station and charged.

A solicitor said Allen, who worked as a tobacconist, was also not eligible for the drug diversion program.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale placed Egan on a six-month good behaviour order with a $750 recognisance.

She fined Allen $900.

No conviction was recorded for either men.
