Lorraine Ann Potter convicted of supplying dangerous drugs

A Gladstone woman ran an elaborate drug supply service to numerous clients which landed her with 11 charges. During a search, police uncovered several boxes of dangerous drugs.

A Gladstone mother was told by a magistrate that she was too old to be getting herself involved with dangerous drugs.

Lorraine Ann Potter, 41, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on January 14 to 11 charges including three counts of supplying dangerous drugs.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Carl Spargo detailed the worst of Potter’s offending, which was uncovered when police executed a search warrant at a Whiting Street home in Toolooa on October 7 last year.

During the search, police located several boxes of dangerous drugs including Hydromorphone (Jurnista) which had not been used in the correct manner.

Also found were boxes that had been filled within days of each other from numerous doctors from Yeppoon, Rockhampton and Gladstone.

Police spoke with Potter who said the day before the warrant, she had handed a blister pack, which contained seven tablets of Jurnista, to a friend to take to the Sunshine Coast.

Potter said she knew her friend did not have a prescription for the medication.

Police seized Potter’s phone and located a number of text messages between Potter and people who were interested in buying Jurnista.

One of the text messages read: “U know how U rang me with oxy query and I said I get Jurnista, I usually get $50 per pill and I’m hoping U can do me something for 2, please?”

Mr Spargo said Potter had a long and relevant criminal history and was not suitable for community-based orders such as probation, having had six orders previously.

Potter’s lawyer Rio Ramos said her client had informed her that she was becoming too old for her offending behaviour and wanted to get healthy.

Acting Magistrate Leanne Scoines agreed with Ms Ramos and said Potter’s offending conduct would only keep causing her trouble in the future.

“If you want to establish this new life for yourself here in Gladstone, you are really going to have to work on managing your issues in relation to drugs whether that is illegal or prescription,” Ms Scoines said.

Potter was sentenced to six months imprisonment, wholly suspended for two years. She was also fined $300 and convictions were recorded.
