A woman who committed brazen shoplifting offences at two Gladstone stores has faced court and learned her punishment.

Jessica Rose Stanley, 36, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday to two shoplifting charges.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said on May 23, Stanley and a man were at Woolworths, Kin Kora, and with items in a trolley, they went through the self-service checkout.

Sgt Hoskins said Stanley was seen to scan some items but not $60 worth of batteries.

The court heard when an attendant questioned Stanley about the batteries she said she had purchased them elsewhere.

However, staff then reviewed CCTV footage.

Then on June 8, Stanley went into The Cheesecake Shop Gladstone and took a slice of cheesecake valued at $2.

The court heard when an employee approached Stanley and asked her to pay, she replied “No, don’t have any money” and left the store.

When questioned by police, Stanley said she took the slice of cheesecake without paying because she was starving.

The court heard Stanley had a “lengthy” criminal history which included stealing but these current offences were “fine only” offences.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Stanley $300 and convictions were recorded.
