A man who runs a Central Queensland business has faced court after his act of dangerous driving was filmed and posted to social media.

A man who operates a Gladstone business has faced court after his act of dangerous driving was filmed and posted to social media.

Dylan John Begaud, 31, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to dangerous operation of a vehicle.

The court heard that between 3pm and 6.30pm on June 14 last year, Begaud was driving a Holden that did “donuts and burnouts” on Gladstone’s Hanson Road.

“(The car) was driven in a manner that intentionally caused the wheels to lose traction and smoke,” police prosecutor Sergeant Merrilyn Hoskins said.

“The act took place in front of other traffic, forcing another driver to stop to avoid a collision.”

Sgt Hoskins said the incident was filmed and then published on social media “by the (female) owner of the car.”

Sgt Hoskins said when the woman was questioned by police, she told them Begaud was driving the car and “he’d been working on it at the mechanic shop called Paranormal Performance where (Begaud) is the operator.”

The court heard Begaud had a “very dated” criminal history and a “quite unremarkable” traffic history.

A self-represented Begaud told Magistrate Mary Buchanan that at the time of the offending he had been “going through quite a lot.”

“My wife had left me, I lost my home and most of my things,” Begaud said.

“I’m a business owner in town, a single dad - not having a (driver’s) licence is going to be quite difficult for me.

“Other than that, yeah, there’s not much more I can say.”

Ms Buchanan fined Begaud $700 and disqualified him from driving for six months.

A conviction was recorded.
